PRE PRODUCTION

PRE PRODUCTION

ONE LINER:

“This recreation of an alternative rock music video opens with a tense gaze between characters, then flows into timed moments that highlight each instrument and performer. A variety of setting-prone shots add depth, and it ends with another intense standoff as the music and dark lights carry on.”

THE PRELIMNARY RESEARCH:

The preliminary begins with instruments scattered across the floor, setting the scene. The camera will capture this through close-up shots combined with panning and dolly movements, drawing inspiration from Arctic Monkeys "Do I Wanna Know?".

“In my music video the setting will be arranged in a way so the band members will be standing next to their instruments, sometimes focusing on playing and other times looking straight at the camera.”

“Ref. Arctic Monkeys –Do I Wanna Know? on YouTube.”

Since our project takes inspiration from the Alternative Rock genre, where standout clothing often plays a big role in live performances. For example, in ‘Mr. Brightside’ by The Killers, the band’s performance and distinct look add to the dramatic mood of the video. Instead of copying that look, we plan to create our own unique outfits that capture attention and reflect our take on the genre.

“Overall, the preliminary will serve as a brief introduction to our environment and the general tone of the music video.”

MOODBOARDS:

These moodboards showcase two different sides of my music video.

The first, the Band Inspiration Moodboard, highlights the influences behind my concept. It features iconic 1990s bands that were groundbreaking, unique, and widely admired at the time, reflecting the style and energy I want to capture in my video.

This mood board highlights the camera angles and shots I’ll use in my music video, such as close-ups and medium shots. It reflects the visual style and focus I want to create, the inspiration is taken from 21 Guns by Green Day.

 BAND TIMELINE:

This shows the progression of the band, from its formation to how it broke apart and then was brought back together.

The  reason the band split up was due to a fught between the drummer and the guitarist. However, once they reconciled, the drummer took the lead in bringing everyone back together and reviving the band.

LOCATION:

We chose to shoot the music video in a studio that is familiar to us, as it is a place where my friend usually plays. The setting felt natural and personal, making it easier to capture real emotions. It also offered a professional environment with good acoustics and full control over lighting and sound. Since we were already comfortable in that space, it helped us perform more confidently. The studio’s flexibility also allowed us to try different camera angles and creative setups. Overall, it was the perfect location for us to bring our vision to life.
