POST PRODUCTION
EDITING OUR MUSIC VIDEO
In this project, we chose to work out of our comfort zone by using an editing program that I had previously used, CapCut. The following is a step by step analysis of how we went about the process.
Firstly we had gone through all the raw footage and then have scanned away the bloopers and any other clips that we did not want to include in the project and that was how we arrived at the final takes of the project.
During beat drops, Zainab added a quick split for a fraction of a second before continuing the video, creating a blink effect that synced with the music.
We started by categorizing all of my pictures and video clips in the proper format and eliminating unusable videos and errors. After filtering, I cropped and refined the clips and imported them to CapCut where We edited them.
We then split the clips into parts in order to achieve a non-linear structure of the music video. This was a significant strategy in making the project more organized and rhythmic. At that point, I placed the clips on the timeline and created the flow and began the technical editing.
In the case of audio, Zainab downloaded the song on YouTube, converted it to MP3, normalized the sound (to ensure the highs and lows were not too sharp), and synchronized it with the video. I also used a voice changer effect in sections when live music was playing so that it would be varied and interesting.
Regarding visuals, We used scaling effects to highlight the people on the video and the filler shots, to ease the transition between subjects, avoiding the feeling of abrupt changes. We refined the clips by correcting the exposure and highlights with an adjustment layer in order to keep the constant appearance. To make the music video look retro, I used a retro filter and at the very end a slight brown filter to enhance the overall clarity and resolution of the image due to changes of light.
In text, I used Times New Roman to transition in the text of the title, Everlost and in harmony with the video, and used a fade-out effect in the end so as to provide a smooth end.
In terms of cuts and pacing, I applied smooth cuts throughout the video, split cuts when the beat dropped to form a blink effect, fast-paced jump cuts to keep up with the BPM of the music and flashing camera cuts to preserve the aesthetic and the energy of the video.
Lastly, We made sure that every audio was similar with no distortion but the product was smooth.
GRAPHIC DESIGN:
In this section, I utilized Canva through my laptop to produce my posters and other resources because it offered me easier access to the tools and was able to work conveniently in a single place.
Others are my former A levels projects.
